Turkey has been a party to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women since 1988. In this context, the official reports and shadow reports, if any, of the state parties are evaluated by the committee every 2 years. Among the most important international projects carried out by Flying Broom, which aims to ensure communication and interaction between women’s organizations, are the projects conducted within the context of CEDAW. In 2003, Flying Broom organized the first CEDAW Civil Society organizations meeting in Turkey, held in Ankara with the participation of 500 women. Following the meeting, which included 8 separate workshops, the Shadow Report created by women’s organizations was evaluated by the CEDAW committee in 2005. Flying Broom served as the secretariat throughout this process.
