“Hello,
I am about to be forced into marriage. I am too young for marriage. The person I am to marry says he loves me, and my family says he will take good care of me. But I want to continue my education like my peers, I want to stand on my own feet and make my own decisions for my life. But I can’t speak up. You can tell from my face, my eyes, my behavior, and the changes in my habits that something is not right in my life. You might see me at school, in class, at the courthouse, at the hospital, on the street, and maybe even at my own wedding. With one decision, you can change my life.
Be my voice, be my eyes, be my hands. You understand me best.”
The Flying Broom Foundation has implemented this project to share its 16 years of experience in combating child, early, and forced marriages and to raise awareness about this social issue.
With the “Be My Voice” Project, supported by Civil Society Dialogue:
- Niğde University
- Çankırı Karatekin University
- Eskişehir Osmangazi University
- Kilis 7 Aralık University
- Başkent University
- Bilkent University
- Atılım University and
- METU
were visited. During these visits, video screenings, experience sharing, and presentations on the subject were conducted.
In the planning stage of university visits, priority was given to faculties of education, medicine, and law. The reason for this is that students studying in these faculties are more likely to encounter victims of this issue in their professional lives.
By the end of the project, over 500 students were reached.
